With todays entry into the Howdy John collection, Paul Sorano, shown here with Marie Burns, opens up his greenhouse and the "gun show"!  Yikes!

Tom G., that means we need you showing off your own gun show in your greenhouse holding a Howdy John.

By the time we get to Ralph and Olive the demands will be much more complex!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for the big gaps in new posts, but sometimes life gets in the way of violets!:(

My showplants are doing much better now that the weather in Chicagoland has leveled off a bit from the torent of heat that was July.  Buds are starting to poke up all over, but hopefully not too early for the shows in the early part of October.  I promise I'll post pictures from the plant room very soon.

Meanwhile, here's the latest addition to the Shout out to John series from David in VA.  shown here holding his plant of the trailer 'Candy Fountain'.  Wow!  David really knows how to grow the big ones!  Thanks David!

I'm still waiting for the much-promised but yet to be sent photos from many of the rest of you!!!   :)

I'm LOVING this flood of Violet folks checking in to say hey!  Maybe it's just me, but I enjoy getting a peek at others plant rooms.
Below is a photo of Bill Foster, AVSA Hall of Fame Inductee for 2010.  WOW!!!  Thanks sir!

This photo below shows the lovely and gracious Libbie Glembocki of Bluebird Greenhouse with a plant stand at home saying "Hi"

Frequent visitors to the blog will recognize the woman below as my friend and violet mentor Andrea Worrell, sending me a loud "Howdy John!"

So join in the fun, and send me a shot of you with your light stand and a sign we can easily read with your howdy, hey, or hello!  Email them to me at john@barringtonviolets.org

Another big thank you to Tom Glembocki (Bluebird Greenhouse) for taking these photos on his westward journey and back home again.
These photos below of Hortense and Ray Pittman are the next installment of the
"Famed Growers/Exhibitors send a Shout out to John (me)"

I can't imagine there are folks that don't know the Pittman's.  They have introduced over 800 violet varieties, including the Jolly series.

Okay, so I owe a major THANK YOU to Tom Glembocki for meeting my double dog challenge of getting a photo of Anne and Richard Nicholas' plant room.  It's the african violet version of getting invited to dinner at Madonna's house because she thinks you're very chic and cutting-edge.

Anne uses small canning jars with rings but not the lids to hold her Solo cups.  The white and black paper is to lower algae levels inside the jar.
